GENDER FAIR – SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE SHOPPING

Treatment of women in the large companies is not favourable. We are not represented as men are, especially in the higher management positions, while female board members are particularly rare. Most of the companies do not have defined policies regarding gender diversity and they are treating women with disrespect in their advertising campaigns. On the other hand 64% of consumers agree that large companies should be actively involved in solving important social problems and gender diversity is one of the issues.

“Gender Fair” web site found a way to directly link business success and profit of the companies with their treatment of women. Using data analytics, this service determines which companies meet the regulations prescribed by the United Nations. By making results public and available to the potential clients, gender fair encourages consumers to reward those companies with true best-in-class equality practices, as opposed to those who just pretend to.

Their research is based on four different areas: Leadership score – analysis of a company’s commitment to advancing female leadership throughout its organizational structure; Employee score – analysis of a company’s ability to provide inclusive working environment for employees; Advertising score – analysis of a company’s efforts to portray women in a way that breaks stereotypes in its marketing and Philanthropy score – analysis of a company’s commitment to philanthropy or social responsibility (CSR). Devastating is the fact that only 15% of the companies in question meet the regulatory standards.
